Cooking Basics - A One Week Course

 

Cooking Basics at Inspired Gourmet is for those who are keen to develop the culinary skills to cook simple, delicious and beautiful meals for themselves, family and friends.   The Inspired Gourmet team of qualified instructing chefs have years of experience in working with developing domestic cooks, helping them discover and develop new simple and useful  techniques.

Cooking Basics is a week-long intensive cookery course focussed on developing gourmet preparation and cooking techniques.  Cookery students must be 16 years old and must have an interest in developing their culinary skills.

The course starts with basic kitchen health and safety training that includes learning to use knives safely.  Our chefs will then guide students through all of the necessary steps to producing simple, affordable and beautiful food.

This course is the building block for all other gourmet courses we offer and will ensure you feel confident in the kitchen and thrilled with your new skills and techniques.

Course Outline
The following topics are covered in the Cooking Basics course.
- Kitchen health and safety
- Knife skills – learning to chop effectively and safely
- Kitchen equipment basics – using food processors, scales, and measuring techniques
- Reading recipes
- Food purchasing
- Making and using stocks in recipes
- Creating Dough for use in recipes
- Simple and beautiful pastries and desserts
- Main Dishes – how to prepare and cook meat, poultry and fish perfectly
- Vegetable Side Dishes with flavours that compliment and don’t complicate
- Easy healthy breakfasts
- Snacks, Light Lunches, Soups and Starters for impromptu gatherings and evenings in

Course Recipes
Below is a list of the types of dishes taught on the Gourmet Cooking Basics cookery course.
- Root vegetable and pearl barley broth
- Slow roast tomato and mozzarella salad
- Thai spiced fishcakes with sweet chilli and rocket
- Slow roast pork with braised carrots
- Breast of chicken with potato rosti and steamed broccoli
- Traditional Beef Bourguignon, cauliflower gratin and roast new potatoes
- White chocolate cheesecake with Oreos
- Baileys Bread and butter pudding

The course fee includes a professional tuition for five days from 10am until 4pm, a recipe booklet and cooking basics information guide, a Victorinox knife starter set with three essential kitchen knives, an Inspired Gourmet apron, all ingredients, refreshments and a daily three course lunch with wine.
